WIFI Design Engineer
Description

A WiFi Design Engineer is a professional responsible for planning, implementing, and optimizing wireless network infrastructures. They meticulously analyse requirements, assess coverage needs, and select appropriate equipment to design efficient WiFi systems. These engineers conduct site surveys to determine optimal access point placement, configure network settings, and ensure seamless connectivity. They stay up-to-date with industry standards and emerging technologies to deliver robust, secure, and high-performance wireless solutions. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, troubleshooting network issues, and providing technical support are integral aspects of their role, ensuring reliable WiFi connectivity for users across various environments.

Responsibilities
  • Must have a minimum of 8-years work experience in Wi-Fi Planning, Design, and optimization.
  • Familiar with 802.11 standards and Wi-Fi alliance developments.
  • Experience with CBRS design and RF planning tools is must.
  • Deep understanding of IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax networks.
  • Expertise with, design, and deployment in large, complex, high-density, large venues and/or sports, entertainment facilities and outdoor environments.
  • Expert level understanding of site survey, predictive design and post design validation using Ekahau Air magnet and iBwave.
  • Integrate knowledge of building construction, RF behavioral characteristics and current hardware vendor limitations to create a design proposal.
  • Expert level understanding of various antenna types, their uses, and demerits.
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP protocols, IP networking and familiarity with Unix commands.
  • Hands on experience with Cisco, Ruckus controllers and Access Point with knowledge of vendor specific systems like Cisco Prime, SCI, DNAC etc.
  • Hands on experience configuring controller based and autonomous access points and in-depth understanding of Spectrum and packet capture/analysis.
  • Expertise defining Wi-Fi network health/performance monitoring KPIs and Hands on experience installing Wi-Fi probes and creating custom dashboards (7Signal preferred).
  • Ability to work with multiple vendors and come up with solutions for improving Wi-Fi performance.
  • Must be able to assess current network and provide recommendations for performance improvement.
  • Detailed and through, consistent documentation skills for network diagrams and test plans.
  • 5G CBRS small cell design experience is good to have.
  • Familiarity with 3GPP specifications, Link Budget, RF design guidelines and capacity planning/forecast.
  • Ability to work with multiple stake holders including but not limited to product owners, operations, vendors, other engineering teams.
Skills
  • 802.11 g/n/ac protocols, Cisco/Meraki APs, Ruckus AP’s
  • iBwave Level 1 and Level 2 certification required.
  • Ekahau, IBWave, Atoll, Overture.
  • Minimum of Associate level Wi-Fi certifications like CWNA, CCNA-Wireless (CWAP, CCIE-Wireless preferred).
  • Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, PC TEL iB Flex and JDSU Scanners, Net Scout, Packet Capture.
  • Deep understanding of WLAN technologies, network management including IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WLAN standards and industry best practices.
  • Must have excellent time management, oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to quickly troubleshoot problems.
Education

A bachelor's degree in any field of study.
